Southwest Airlines has just made it a lot easier to take someone out on an adventure without having to pay twice. The airline is offering one of its largest promotions of the year: If you book just a single roundtrip ticket during a limited period, you can make an extra trip today without having to fly 100 flights or accrue six figures in points first.
If you have been looking for this benefit then this is the sort of offer that should be checked out, even though you may need to be quick in making your move.
Southwest offers this promotion a few times a year, and this current one is pretty much the same as the many great promotions they've done before. Now, here's the criteria you must meet:
That last one is a good one to point out on its own, as it gives you true flexibility. Plans change, travel partners change Southwest isn't tying you to a travel buddy for the entire promotion.
Here the booking window is very small, just four days, so don't wait on it. If you have an upcoming trip to Southwest lined up, you may be able to cancel your trip and then rebook using the travel funds or vouchers from the cancelled flight, allowing you to requalify without putting in new money, according to one workaround.

If you are newer to Southwest or even haven't heard about them before, you might not realize just just how helpful the Companion Pass is. The rule essentially allows a user to add one companion per ticket flight, free of charge (excluding minor taxes and fees), whether or not he or she has paid cash for their ticket, or accumulated points for the ticket.
In essence it's the travel advantage of two for one and truly, there's nothing else like it in the loyalty program realm. Most airline benefits reduce the price of flying by a bit, but this one can reduce travel costs for two people by almost half, flight after flight, until the pass expires.
It's not easy to get Companion Pass status under normal circumstances. You'll need to qualify for it for 100 qualifying one-way flights or 135,000 qualifying points in one calendar year to get it "organically. You'll need to earn 100 qualifying one-way flights or 135,000 qualifying points in a single calendar year to get it "organically" in your account with Southwest. This is a pretty big commitment one that is more suited for the road-warrior, frequent fliers than for some casual flyers.
This promotion takes away all that. By flying just one qualifying roundtrip within a four-day period, all the pilot must do is complete that trip without issue and he or she has qualified for a free year of flying. The downside is that it's not good for the entire calendar year like an earned pass, but it does only last for a specific amount of travel time (which is about two months, from the beginning of early January through the end of early March 2027). However, for those who have already booked a trip in that period, it's a fairly low price tag for a very high reward.
This promotion won't apply to all of us and that's okay to admit. If you're unwilling to do any flying on Southwest flights during the period from January to March 2027, you may not even want to go through the process of registering. However, if any of the following is applicable to you, it is certainly worth a closer look:
If a traveler ticks off even one or two of those boxes, the numbers are going to be very favourable. Imagine two people going on holiday in February - one person pays and the other flies for hardly any fare! The savings can add up quickly over the several trips made during those 2 months.
Don't just take this promotion over the past several years, Southwest has also made other changes to its promotion program and business; here's a good example of how they've kept continuing to offer promotions like this. Great news to see Southwest continuing to offer one of its most generous offers repeatedly throughout the year as it gets cut back across the board in the industry over time.
If you don't find this window convenient, you might want to watch for it as it is likely to come up again during the year. If you're dreaming of flying to the United States, the Companion Pass is one of the travel goals you should try to achieve. If you do, then it might be a great idea to set a calendar reminder to look at Southwest promotions every few months.

Southwest's newest promotion offers a fast, low-commitment path to one of the most valuable perks in air travel. Register between now and the deadline, book one roundtrip ticket (or two one-ways) between August 3 and August 6, 2026, complete that travel by November 18, and you'll unlock a promotional Companion Pass good for flights between January 5 and March 3, 2027 with the ability to change your companion up to three times along the way.
It won't be the right fit for every traveler, but if you've got any trips on the horizon during that window, this is exactly the kind of offer that's worth carving out a few minutes to register for. Deals this generous don't come around constantly, and when Southwest brings the Companion Pass promotion back, it's usually worth taking seriously.
