This is one of the easiest awards to appear on a newly restored route in recent memory with taxes and fees at a minimal $26.85.

What's Available and When

This alert is truly actionable as there's a window of opportunity from November 2026 to January 2027, which is approximately three months with several dates having available award space in both cabins. Business class availability is up to seven seats on some flights, and economy is as high as nine seats, making it a great opportunity to travel with family or a small group.

There's a reason a points redemption here makes total sense it's revealed by cash fares on this route. Economy tickets routinely cost more than $500 one way and business class is always over $1,000. This is yielding a return of around 6 to 7 cents in value per Atmos Rewards point redeemed, which is a pretty good return for this redemption on any American route at this time.

The need to redeem for one way business class tickets at a rate of 15,000 points can be accomplished with one welcome bonus on Alaska's co-branded card or a modest Bilt transfer. Business class round trip at 30,000 points is still a pretty modest request from the value of the money spent.

The reasons to do this route other than for points angle

Venezuela's return to being a viable destination for U.S. travelers is a significant milestone itself. Caracas and the entire country had been denied direct commercial service from the United States for years and travel was difficult and often impractical, and costly. That all changed when American Airlines announced in December 2022 plans to resume nonstop service between Miami and Caracas in April 2026 it's a route with real underlying demand, as the large Venezuelan diaspora in Miami makes it a compelling one.

It's a really helpful service for travelers who visit their families, run businesses, or just discover a place that has not been on the map of places that they can reach for a while. It is interesting that the availability of the awards has been as broad as it has, right after the route's restoration, and may not be the same as it becomes more mature and patterns of demand clearer.

Timing and Practicality

The travel window from November 2026 through January 2027 is a shoulder/high award season season, which is generally more flexible when it comes to award availability. If you're flexible on your travel dates, you should look at booking a ticket to travel in November or early December before the holiday season starts driving up cash fares even more, to get the best points cost and available inventory.

This low tax burden of $26.85 in total fees also means that the tax burden on the out-of-the-pocket cost of points redemption is extremely low. That is not so common on international business class redemptions, however, as a fuel surcharge and carrier-added fees may be hundreds of dollars above the points value.

The Bottom Line

American Airlines' long-overdue nonstop Miami-Caracas service is now extremely available on American Airlines at $7,500 economy one-way and $15,000 business class per point, plus $26.85 in taxes and fees (OANDA). Business class cash fares consistently crossing $1,000 one way, the value per point really is outstanding. Availabilities are available from November 2026 to January 2027, with multiple dates for both economy and business class available, up to a maximum of seven business class seats. 

This is one of the best near-term award buys currently available on any recently re-flown international route, for at least two reasons: one, it's a way to use points for the Atmos Rewards program; and two, it can be funded using points from the Bilt Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programs.
