EVA Air is currently in the middle of a promotion in its Infinity MileageLands program that is giving up to a 40% bonus on miles purchased which reduces the cost per mile to as low as 2.8 cents each when purchased at the highest level. The question of whether that is really worth doing so hinges much upon what you are now intending to do with those miles and one particular program requirement making the calculus much different. Let's break it down.

If you already have a meaningful EVA Air balance and need to cross a redemption threshold before your miles expire or a partner award opens up buy now. The math works, the bonus is real, and topping up your account for a specific booking is exactly the use case this sale was designed for.
If you're considering buying miles speculatively stockpiling them without a specific redemption in mind the combination of a 36-month expiration clock and the 50% purchase cap makes this a much riskier proposition. Miles you can't easily use are miles you've paid for without getting value back.
