When people think of the end of the year, they usually consider making a New Year's resolution. If you've been thinking of signing up for the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, now might be the savvy time to do it, given the last few months of 2026. Since some of its benefits accumulate on the calendar year, signing up now will help you earn two sets of credits before you even start your first full year. How the timing trick works, and how much extra value it could be worth up to $250 dollars.
The Hilton Aspire is perhaps one of the best hotel cards around! There is a $550 fee each year, but there are lots of ways to cover this. This includes automatic Hilton Diamond status for the card until it is cancelled and an annual Free Night Reward certificate upon card membership renewal.
The important thing to remember is that some statement credits are calendar year based and not cardmember year based. This means, if you are approved by December 31st, you'll be able to use the first set of credits this year, followed by a new batch on January 1st, 2027. Some benefits may require enrollment.
This strategy doesn’t work for every card. It is best suited to cards that have calendar year credits, like the Aspire.
Now, the public welcome bonus is 200,000 bonus points for spending $6,000 on purchases over the first 6 months of using the card. The offer ends January 13, 2027.
Hilton points are worth about 0.5 cents each on average for award nights, so the bonus is worth up to $1,000. That's a good beginning before you're even at the statement credit.

The card gives up to $400 per year in statement credits for eligible purchases at participating Hilton properties, which are two statement credits for up to $200 per half year. Those who register late in 2026 may be eligible for up to $600 in their first year instead of $400.
Over 300 resorts are involved. It applies to eligible purchases such as food, beverages and parking and may be applied to eligible room rates, except for prepaid room rates. If you're heading to a resort this year, this is a simple way to save an additional $200 this coming year.
Save an additional Flight Credit.
The Aspire also assists with air fare. The total number of flights you can earn is up to $200 per calendar year, with a quarterly cap of $50. If you apply before the end of the year, you can still get an additional 1/4 of your application.
Using it is simple. The credit will be reflected on your statement for when you pay for a flight through the Amex Travel App, AmexTravel.com or directly with the airline. The card also allows a 7x point on eligible airfare, which can prove to be hotel points in the future.
At another time of year, the same amount of extra credit will be approximately $250 more valuable, when combined with the extra $200 resort credit. This makes for a good compliment to the right application at the right time on the card you already wanted.
Remember, the credits are not carried over to the next month, quarter or year. Avoiding leaving money on the table is best achieved by understanding when each one resets.
The Aspire also provides one Free Night Reward certificate with your first anniversary as a cardmember and then one each year thereafter. Can be redeemed at nearly any Hilton hotel where Hilton rewards are available. There's even the potential to earn 2 extra Free Night Rewards per calendar year by spending $30,000 and $60,000 on the card.
Those are spending thresholds, but they can work for those who have significant, predictable spending needs to consider, such as estimated tax payments, holiday spending, or whatever else you might have. The calendar resets on Jan. 1, 2027, so you can begin making toward those thresholds again.
A clever idea for these certificates is to keep them for multiple nights' use. For instance, you might be able to cash in on multiple certificates, and have a long holiday at a luxury hotel, and all you have to book is the flights.

The Hilton Aspire provides numerous helpful travel perks, but most of the statement credits have a specific period of time in which they must be used. They don't carry over into the next month, quarter or even year, which is where knowing the reset dates of each benefit can make a huge difference on the value that you can get from the card. That's why it's crucial to apply when you do. An application made by the end of 2026 will entitle you to use the first set of resort and flight credits by December 31, 2026 and the next set when the calendar rolls over on January 1, 2027. With that, and the annual Free Night Reward granted at each renewal, it results in an additional $250 of value, which is a pretty significant amount.
But, of course, the card is only worth anything if you are going to take advantage of these benefits. It's a $550 annual fee for those who are staying at Hilton's and booking a resort or two and using the card for flights. If you are one of these travelers, the end of the year is a great time to apply! Only keep in mind that the welcome offer expires on January 13, 2027 and you will have to invest $6,000 within the first 6 months to receive the bonus. Make a budget and you can have your credit in hand and a head start to your next trip in the year 2027.
