Hyatt Just Added a Historic Oceanfront Hotel Steps from the Santa Monica Pier and Points Bookings Are Open

You are not the only person who will fail to find Hyatt property in real walking distance of the Santa Monica beach. One of the more obvious holes in the World of Hyatt portfolio, it has been years and years, a world-class coast destination with dismal coastal options even in the face of loyalists who would rather redeem their points than cash. The distance between them has been reduced significantly.

A Santa Monica Icon Fits in a new nest in the Hyatt Family

Georgian Hotel is one of the most recognizable buildings on Ocean Avenue and has been officially incorporated by the world of Hyatt into the Unbound Collection. To one who has never been there, it is the sort of place that halts your walk in the middle of it all a well-preserved Art deco edifice first constructed in 1933, with the sort of architectural flavour that the new hotels execute millions of dollars in trying to create and hardly ever do so.

The hotel just underwent a complete overhaul that balances between preserving nearly century-old bones of the Hollywood era, and being, in fact, so modernized and updated. What this comes out to is 84 rooms, 28 suites, a good amount of which have direct over-Pacific views. The ground level will house a California-themed eatery, a cocktail bar whose spirit is iniured by the secretive history of the hotel and a cafe, which bleeds into Ocean Avenue, more of an amenity of the hotel than a neighborhood site.

That distinction matters. The Georgian does not drag itself like a resort that is closed off. It is a part of the Santa Monica fabric seamlessly such that the location seems to be earned, and not accidental.

Location Is Everything and This One Delivers

This is where it becomes truly exciting to the Hyatt members and that is the fact that the Georgian is right opposite the beach on the Ocean Avenue. Not half a block inland, not a ten minutes' walk away across the water. The Santa Monica Pier is a short distance away. The coastline walk is just at the beachfront. Stores, food joints and the vitality that makes Santa Monica one of the very favorite locations in Southern California are all within a walking distance.

The location of the Georgian is an exception in a place such as Los Angeles, where, in some cases, car ownership seems more of a necessity than a luxury. Checking in and leaving your car keys in the room during the whole period of your stay is something you can do in real life and not to lose a thing. Such walkability is literally rare on a Hyatt property in the LA market, and it is an important aspect of what makes such an addition special.

Price of Booking with Points

Georgian has been designated as a Category 6 in World of Hyatt program with award nights of 21,000 points in off-peak dates, 25,000 points in standard prices, and 29,000 points in peak periods.

To put those numbers into perspective: the cash rates at the Georgian are approximately about $500 per night and do increase significantly during summer weekends and holiday seasons this is precisely when most individuals would like to be in Santa Monica. With a standard award night of 25,000 points, you have a redemption value of much more than a cent per point, which is a very good result by any analysis in the World of Hyatt program.

The availability of awards is also quite healthy at the moment and the open dates are distributed throughout the calendar, instead of the annoying patchwork of blackout dates which makes some popular properties nearly inaccessible through points. When you have specific dates, it is better to search as soon as possible, not as late as, the beachfront inventory will be in demand, and even after the word is spread, it will be difficult to buy at this price in the future.

How to Earn Enough Points to be A Stay

In case your Hyatt balance is not at the right place, a few effective routes to fill up the balance are available. Chase Ultimate Rewards points and Bilt Rewards points each transfer to World of Hyatt 1:1, so either would be a natural feeder in case you are already earning in either ecosystem. Since Chase Ultimate Rewards is among the most common travel currencies in the U.S., a vast number of individuals are nearer to Georgian redemption than they can be aware of.

There are also two co-branded Hyatt credit cards (one personal and one business) that are offered by World of Hyatt that come with a very generous welcome bonus and automatically grant the entry-level elite status of Discoverist. And in the event that you are not already a cardmember of Hyatt, and this hotel is the kick in the pants you require, it is timely.

Why this is a true win to the Hyatt Loyalists

The travel rewards community has a tendency to get hyped when there is a new addition of property and not everything is justified by that. Another Hyatt hotel in a small market or a well-established category tier effects a change in the needle very little. This one is different.

The Ocean Avenue is one of those addresses that the people choose to visit anytime they visit the Southern California. Leisure travelers have found it to be one of the most desirable ZIP codes in the West Coast due to a blend of the beach, the pier, and the Palisades Park bluffs, and the walkable commercial strip. To be able to keep a Hyatt property not just around the corner but, in fact, front and center of such an experience, in a building with actual architectural soul, and no less, is the sort of addition that makes you reconsider the scope of a loyalty program.

The Georgian is not attempting to be one of those large-scale resorts. It is small, 84 rooms, has a historic building, and has its location that very few hotels in the entire Los Angeles would be proud of. It is the reason why World of Hyatt members who have been long waiting to plan that visit to Santa Monica can make the trip happen.
