This was a hectic week in the hotel industry with a handful of new entries, a newly renovated historic hotel and a couple of hotels that will be on your travel list soon. From earning Hilton Honors points to saving up for a Marriott Bonvoy stay to simply staying updated on the growth of favorite loyalty programs, there's something to know for everyone.
Today, Hilton announced that its latest addition to one of the nation's most popular vacation spots, the Hilton Key West Resort & Marina, has opened, bringing the chain's total number of properties in the Florida Keys to 12. The property is located on Stock Island with a suite-to-room ratio that is quite generous, and is offering 175 guest rooms, 86 of which are suites, which indicates that the property is targeting a guest looking for more than a standard hotel room when traveling to the Florida Keys.
Travelers looking to spend quality time on the water will enjoy amenities such as several pools, local dining and even boating and fishing. Rooms are available for $240 per night in cash or 72,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
Across the globe, Hilton has launched Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi Resort in Malaysia, which is located on the beach between the tropical rainforest and the Andaman Sea. The resort adds 251 rooms, three swimming pools, four restaurants, five rock pools for meditation and a nature centre to an island that's emerging as an international holiday hotspot.
The inclusion of an eforea Spa, plus the natural setting, will also indicate a wellness-forward positioning of the property, which will resonate with the trendy marketing of Langkawi’s naturalism to international visitors. The starting price for cash rates is about $220 per night and award nights are $66,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
The company, a division of The Marriott Corporation under the name Trailborn, has now opened its first California property, Hillhouse at Trailborn Mendocino, which is part of the brand's portfolio of boutique and outdoor-adjacent properties. The Hill House Inn, which has authentic Mendocino history and character, is the first to offer 44 rooms in this Northern California's most scenic coastline.
The Mendocino footprint will expand in 2027 as the venerable Mendocino Hotel is anticipated to reopen as another Mendocino Hotel property, eventually reaching a total of 89 rooms. At this time the current property's base rate is $159 per night in cash or 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, which is a competitive price point for a hotel stay on the coast of California.
One of this week's more interesting new openings is not a new construction it's a well-preserved slice of American hospitality history. The Gunter Hotel, opened in 1909, has just undergone a $57 million renovation and is now part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio brand as The Gunter Hotel.
Nestled in San Antonio's downtown, the property is home to 311 guest rooms, 30 of which are suites, four eating establishments and a part it shares with virtually all other Marriott properties: a recording studio, a vinyl library, and record players in rooms. That's something to note for music-loving travelers or those who enjoy a place with a true character.
Rooms start at $125 in cash and award nights are a possibility with 33,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, which is one of the more attainable rates at a hotel of this caliber and downtown location.

In addition to what is already open, there were a number of additional openings that were of interest this week:
IHG's positive news in the big picture included major growth initiatives on two fronts. In China, over 15 properties will open under various brands worldwide, such as Kimpton, Atwell, Garner, Holiday Inn Express, and InterContinental, throughout the second half of this year. Despite the numerous challenges the hotel industry has faced in China in recent years, the volume of the rollout indicates the market's significance to hotel companies.
The continued investment in Saudi's hotel infrastructure that's been driving the transformation of the kingdom's tourism sector over the last few years has also continued with IHG, which pledged to operate hotels across all six of its Luxury & Lifestyle brand categories in the country by 2028.
For loyalty program users, the takeaways with the news this week are few but powerful. Hilton Key West and Langkawi are adding to Hilton Honors' presence in two distinctly different, yet attractive, destinations. For Marriott Bonvoy members, the Gunter Hotel offers a down-to-earth, and quite fascinating, hotel in the heart of San Antonio. The brand-new Trailborn Mendocino opening brings a new chance to redeem points on the Northern California coast where quality, Marriott branded properties have been scarce.
The future openings especially the NoMad Singapore and Alila Hakone are ones to keep an eye on for those who are developing their travel plans until the end of 2027 and 2028. The brand profiles of both are engaging and genuine, and openings of these properties usually have a better availability during the initial period, before they become widely known.

A successful week in the hotel business saw the opening of the Hilton Key West, the first Trailborn property in California on the Pacific coast at Mendocino and the reopening of San Antonio's historic Gunter Hotel under the Marriott Tribute Portfolio brand in Malaysia at Langkawi.
Other releases in the pipeline that are on the radar include the NoMad Hilton Singapore expected in the market later this year, Alila Hakone in Japan for 2028 and Hyatt's first Tucson hotel expected in 2027. The current openings offer a wider range of redemption opportunities for travelers, and IHG's aggressive expansion in China and Saudi Arabia points to further growth for the company in the countries' various aspects of its traveler program.
