There's a list of bucket list hotel redemptions and then there's Calala Island. This private island resort with five suites is located among the Pearl Cays in the Caribbean Sea and is the type of place that most points spend years wishing they could find a night at never mind a week. While Calala Island doesn't necessarily have the most expensive point redemption rate, it is certainly one of the most difficult properties to earn award on and it is a fact. If we're getting three night minimums throughout an entire month, it's something you should stop everything to do.
Standard award nights are available in abundance this month, with no hikes in the numbers of June 2027 through the end of early July, including on the Fourth of July holiday weekend at Calala Island. For comparison: If you look for any three-night award windows, you will find nearly none in 2026 or in the first five months of 2027. This opening is not a normal opening.
The property is located on an 11-acre private island which is only accessible by plane from Managua to Bluefields and then by boat to the island, which is all included in the stay. There are over 25 staff members and no more than 10 adults in the resort at a time in five beachfront suites. The ratio of staff to guests here (more than 2:1) is telling you everything that you need to know about the service level being provided here.
All those costs are accounted for in the cash rate price tag. The lodging rates on Calala Island begin around $4,400 a night, occupying a sweet middle ground in the exclusive ultra luxury realm of the world. The slight lessening of the alarm is the amount of what it includes: All meals and drinks all day long, fishing, snorkeling, water sports, and roundtrip transportation from Managua. The all-in structure is a closer reflection of the actual experience cost as opposed to a room-only figure. Additional optional experiences and gratuities for staff are advised for guests to budget for, but are not covered in the base stay.
Currently, the Junior Suite is the type of room available on award bookings. 5 suites on a private island is not a crowded resort as you would only be sharing the island with 9 more adults at max occupancy. If the other suites are booked, there is a good chance you would get even more privacy.
The current state of the award without any changes in the stakes or format:

The easiest way is to go to Hilton's website, click on “Use Points” to search for Calala Island and enter the exact date of your visit. Confirm availability is done before any point transfers moving points between programs is irreversible and confirming space is live before moving points is a critical step.
In addition, if you don't already have 240,000 Hilton Honors points per night in your account, American Express Membership Rewards has a 1:2 exchange rate for Hilton Honors points. That equates to 120,000 Amex points that equal 240,000 Hilton points, which is enough for one night. If someone were to stay for three nights, 360,000 Amex points would be worth 720,000 Hilton points. The fifth-night-free benefit on award stays is available to Silver status and above members of Hilton Honors, which will save members with Silver status or higher 1.2 million points for a 5-night award stay to 960,000 total (assuming they book a 5-night award stay).
What sets Calala Island apart from other Hilton properties is that it accepts Hilton Free Night Certificates and these certificates have unlimited value. Even if the points cost runs are high, the 240,000 point-nightly rate does not bar the use of the certificate if there is a standard room award rate, then a certificate can be used for the night.
Hilton Honors American Express membership comes with a free night certificate. One of the highest dollar uses of any annual certificate available in the travel rewards section is the deployment of an Aspire certificate at Calala Island where they are charging $4,400 cash for it. A $300 nightly hotel stay is a small price for that certificate. The chance to apply the uncapped certificate at one of the world's most exclusive resorts is truly special and now that window is here, it's been an almost impossible time that people have been able to avail it.
Certificates and points may be used together to meet the entire minimum stay requirement for stays of more than one night. For instance, two certificates and 240,000 points may be good to book a three-night stay, depending on availability.
The availability window spanning June and early July 2027 is unusual in that it has come into existence. The 5-suite deal on Calala means that only 5 award nights are available on any particular date and when they have sold out, they do. Once this goes "viral" in the points and miles world, it won't be long until there are no available units left to rent.
Particularly of note are the dates of the Fourth of July weekend. Availability at ultra-exclusive properties has a tendency to be the first to go, and if they do have standard award night dates open during the holidays, it won't be long before they do again.
If you've been dreaming about a getaway to Calala and you have the points, certificates or Amex balance for it, then the practical tips are to confirm the availability and book it in time before it goes away.

Calala Island, one of the most exclusive and challenging-to-book SLH properties, has wide open standard rates from now through July for the entire month, with a gap of a few days to an entire week during the Fourth of July weekend. The standard award nights cost 240,000 Hilton Honors points per night, for a minimum of 3 nights stay. Considering the cash rate, which begins at $4,400 per night for an ultra-all inclusive private island experience, the points redemption is a great value.
One of the best certificate deployment opportunities in hotel loyalty programs, thanks to the Free Night Certificate from the Hilton Aspire Card, which can be used here with no limit on points pricing. For members needing to top off their Amex account, Amex Membership Rewards transfer at 1:2 to Hilton Honors. This is truly a rare opportunity make sure to double-check the dates, double check availability before transferring points and act fast.
