You Can Get an Almost Free Uber One Membership as an Amex Gold Cardholder

You Can Get an Almost Free Uber One Membership as an Amex Gold Cardholder

In 2026, the American Express Gold Card continued to gain new benefits without increasing its $325 annual fee, a combination worth noting. One of the latest benefits landing in the laps of cardholders this year is a special promotion that delivers a year's worth of Uber One membership for next to nothing.

If you're an occasional or frequent user of Uber or Uber Eats, it's one of the more obvious card perks on a card you're likely to own.

What's On Offer

In a special Amex Offer, available only to Gold cardholders, you can receive up to $96 as a credit on your statement, following payment for an annual Uber One subscription using your Amex Gold card. The annual Uber One membership costs $99, so after the credit you'll only have to pay about $3 less than the cost of a cup of coffee.

You have to enroll in the Amex Offer before paying for Uber One, and the transaction (enrollment and payment) has to be done before October 30, 2026. After you've enrolled the offer to your card and paid for the annual subscription, it'll take a couple of months for the credit to show up on your card.

Two things to keep in mind: make sure you enroll in the Amex Offer before you pay for Uber One. And if you don't want to renew Uber One after the initial year, set a reminder in your calendar before the anniversary date to cancel the service so you aren't charged the annual subscription.

What Uber One Offers

To decide if this is worth the little bit of inconvenience, it's first worth knowing what the Uber One subscription offers.

Uber One was introduced in 2021 to replace the separate Uber Pass and Uber Eats Pass services. It costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year and is aimed at those who regularly use both the transportation and food delivery components of Uber.

The benefits are rather mundane but useful:

  • No delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders from merchants that have the Uber One icon
  • 10% discount on eligible orders from merchants on Uber Eats
  • 6% off eligible Uber rides in Uber One credits
  • Members-only customer service, which can be helpful when issues arise with a delivery, or when you need to resolve an issue with a ride

The subscription renews annually, so the reminder above to cancel is important if you want to make use of the one-year promotion and then cancel. Subscription services' auto-renewals can be easy to miss until the charge hits the card.

How It Works With the Gold Card's Current Uber Benefit

So, this is where the benefit kicks in for current Amex Gold cardholders. The Gold card already gives you $10 in monthly Uber Cash $120 annually to spend on Uber Eats deliveries and Uber rides in the U.S. if you add your Gold card to the Uber app and choose an Amex card as your payment method.

This $10 monthly cash bonus has been one of the Gold card's stealthy benefits all along. For anyone ordering food delivery and/or taking Ubers, it's a regular $120 annual savings that runs year after year without the need to jump through complicated hoops.

Then add Uber One with the waived delivery fees and percentage off food and drinks and you have a powerful combination for those that use the service regularly. You're not saving $10 on a delivery, you're saving $10 on a delivery that doesn't have a delivery fee, and may have the 10% discount on the total of the food you're ordering.

The Amex Gold Card's 2026 Refresh

The Uber One perk is part of a slew of changes Amex has made for the Gold card in 2016. The card now offers new earning rates, elite status benefits with rental companies (for select brands), as well as a few other short-term promotions, alongside the Uber One promotion, all without a change to the $325 annual fee.

The latter point is worth noting as it's a rare occurrence. It's common practice for premium credit cards to add value and raise annual fees to cover the added benefits. The Gold card's 2026 rebranding omits this step, meaning that existing cardholders are experiencing a reduction in the fee/value equation without having to pay a penny more for the privilege.

For those considering the value of the Gold card's annual fee, the balance has always been fairly good when you take into account the monthly dining and Uber Cash benefits. The new Uber One promotion and other benefits tilt that balance even further in the cardholder's favour.

Who's the Best Fit for this Promotion

The short answer is that this promotion is a good deal for two types of people: people who already use Uber Eats or Uber rides often enough that they want to save on delivery fees and discounts; and people who have been interested in Uber One but haven't wanted to pay $99 to try it.

For a net cost of just $3, the "try before you buy" pitch is all but irresistible. Even if you're an occasional Uber user, a year's subscription at that price provides ample time to assess whether the perks make a difference for your personal consumption and decide at the end of the year whether it's worth the $99 price tag.

For Uber Eats super-users in particular, the Uber One service will more than pay for itself in a month from the waived delivery fees and discounted orders on larger orders. At this level, the $99 annual cost would be well justified anyway.

How to Use it Before it Expires

It's an easy process but in the right order. First, access your American Express account, locate the Uber One Amex Offer in the list of offers available for your Gold card. Click on add to card. Next, in the Uber or Uber Eats app, go to the Uber One membership, and choose the annual subscription. Ensure it's paid with your Amex Gold card.

The statement credit of up to $96 will appear on your bill a couple of months after the purchase. The purchase of the membership (for $99) posts immediately, so you will see the full charge posted before the credit is applied this is completely expected.

The offer expires on October 30, 2026, so you have many months to claim it. But Amex Offers sometimes expire earlier than their stated deadlines if the offer is fully taken up or the promotion is modified. The sooner you check the better.

The Bottom Line

The Amex Gold card's time-sensitive offer for an annual Uber One subscription will provide a credit of between $96 and $99 towards the cost of the subscription (which will be paid from the card) and effectively a free trial of the service that can save money on delivery fees and other costs associated with ordering from Uber Eats and Uber. You must sign up and pay before October 30, 2026. This offer, when paired with the Gold card's existing $10 monthly Uber Cash, offers a great recurring value proposition for people who are already heavily invested in the Uber app and a low-risk trial for those who aren't.
