Capital One is giving EVA Air a 30% Transfer Bonus but it’s time to ask what it’s worth?

Capital One is giving EVA Air a 30% Transfer Bonus but it’s time to ask what it’s worth?

One such “luck of the draw” in a loyalty program is a transfer bonus. The headline is a very nice one for the Capital One miles to EVA Air Infinity MileageLands to redeem with and the announcement comes during July 2026, but as always the key is whether it's offering any new value or just the same value at regular prices from another program.

The answer is simply yes, it may very well be worth it, in certain circumstances. Well, here's the whole story.

The actual operation of the Bonus

Once you have transferred your miles to EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, you will get 750 EVA Air miles for every 1,000 Capital One miles. It's a not-so-great conversion from a few angles, and here's one of them why Capital One isn't a top choice for EVA Air award bookings.

This is actually 1,000:975 with the 30% July bonus applied, which is near 1:1 transfer. This isn't par value, but it's close enough to the answer of the person who gets there first that the comparison is quite different.

The natural standard here is Citi ThankYou Rewards, which can be transferred to EVA Air at their standard rate 1:1. However, neither American Express Membership Rewards nor Chase Ultimate Rewards works with EVA Air, which cuts the competition down even more. So, for the most part, it's either Citi at 1:1 or Capital One at the usual 1000:750, which this bonus can offset for July.

EVA Air Infinity MileageLands is an interesting option to take note of

The one particular business class product that is considered more highly rated on the part of EVA Air is in the realm of its long-haul flights, which include North America to Asia. The Royal Laurel cabin has earned a fine reputation among the high-end travelers and the airline has always done a great job in maintaining the quality of its services and making them comparable to the business class redemption truly planable.

What makes EVA Air's own loyalty program so useful, is its dynamic in award availability. The airline reserves most of its best long haul business class award space for those who are members of its own program (Infinity MileageLands), not for those who travel with partners. When you're looking to book a United MileagePlus or other partner frequent flyer bookable seat on EVA Air business class, you'll find that it is very hard to book and often won't be available until the last minute.

If you book through Infinity MileageLands then things look quite different. The availability on business class routes to North America from Asia is 75,000 – 80,000 miles one way, and it's actually better on the road especially for advance bookings, which is where most travel planning really occurs.

The Honest Caveat: The Booking Process Is Painful:

The redemption process is not a seamless journey with EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, which is why it's important to not get too excited about transferring lots of points. There are usability problems on the airline's website that need to be addressed so that it can be easier to use. Some limitations exist with regards to who you may book for. Some aspects of the redemption process will require the completion of forms, but not everything will be done on a clean online page.

None of this detracts from the usability of the program many travelers are able to find their way around it successfully each year but it does make it highly frustrating to use if you don't prepare. It is really important to understand how the miles can be redeemed before transferring them to Infinity MileageLands. It's invariably a one-way transfer and will be irrevocable, so if you can affirm the space is available and that you can complete the booking, then it would be right to transfer miles first.

Here are some brief tips on what to consider before transferring:

  • Standard Capital One to EVA Air ratio: 1,000:750 (suboptimal without a bonus)
  • Citi bonus ratio is 1:1 on most of its transfers, and it's almost that on July 2026. Citi's bonus ratio is almost 1:1 on July 2026, matching its standard transfer rate.
  • One-way business class pricing: 75,000–80,000 EVA Air miles from North America to Asia.
  • Availability advantage: When you book direct with Infinity MileageLands, you will have far more award availability than you will have with the partner programs.
  • Booking experience: Patience is key Web limits, form submissions, and restrictions on redemption partners are all facts of life, and there's a need to do some research before booking.

In situations where this transfer makes strategic sense

Capital One is no doubt a better source for EVA Air miles than most for the July bonus, but Citi's standard rate remains the clear baseline with a 1:1 ratio. The Capital One bonus isn't really a big deal in two situations.

First, if you're not a Citi ThankYou Rewards member (or don't have enough ThankYou points to redeem), the Capital One bonus is sort of like filling the gap to Citi's regular rate. Filling a Citi account with Capital One miles in order to qualify for the bonus for an EVA Air business class flight is a valid and viable use of the offer.

Second, if you're keeping a balance of Capital One miles and still have the option to use them on flights that you could take on Citi points, the July window might allow you to use your Capital One miles exclusively for flights with EVA Air while maintaining your Citi balance for other transfer partners who offer better rates on their points. This is the perfect form of strategic allocation of currency across multiple programs.

The Bottom Line

The 30% transfer bonus to EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, which is the standard transfer ratio, will expire on July 31, 2026, bringing the standard transfer ratio to approximately 1,000:975 (very close to the standard 1:1 transfer ratio of Citi). This is the most interesting for people who don't have enough Citi ThankYou points on their account to redeem a flight with EVA air or for those who would like to save their Citi ThankYou points for other applications.

The availability for EVA Air's own program is quite a bit more meaningful than the availability of partner programs, with 75,000/80,000 miles being one-way business class between North America and Asia. Booking may demand effort and patience, but for travelers who take the time to do some research, this promotion presents a real opportunity to redeem one of the more entertaining premium cabin experiences offered by mileage today.
